The Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation has joined its counterparts all over the world , in commemoration of the 16 days of activism against sexual and gender- based violence which commences November 25th – 4th December, every year .

The 16-days advocacy programme is dedicated to raising awareness about the widespread of violence and human rights’ violation being faced by women globally.

With this celebration serving as a reminder that violence against women, is a grave issue that requires collective action to eradicate, the Commissioner MWAPA; Hon. Cecilia Bolaji Dada, on Monday 27th November, led a procession with Gender Experts, Civil Society Organisations and he members of staff, on a 200km walk to raise awareness about the various forms of violence that women experience such as domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and harmful practices like female genital mutilation,even as emphasis is being made on upholding gender – equality across all strata of the society.
