SKILL ACQUISITION TRAINING: LASG URGES BENEFICIARIES TO EMBRACE CREATIVITY, INNOVATION

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Cecilia Bolaji Dada has urged graduates from the recently concluded four-week, short-term skills acquisition programme to embrace creativity and innovation to meet up with the challenges in their areas of expertise.

Speaking at the closing ceremony held recently at the Foursquare Gospel Church, Omole Phase 1, Ojodu, Dada explained that the programme is an intervention initiative tailored to specifically uplift the lives of indigents, vulnerable, and internally displaced persons/refugees, as well as people with disabilities, across various communities of Lagos State.

While imploring the recipients to incorporate excellent packaging skills in selling their products and services to the public, she maintained that they must continue to innovate ways by which they can package their products to make them more attractive and enticing to buyers.

Applauding the instructors at the centre for their dedication in ensuring that participants acquire the necessary skills needed to support their families and contribute towards the socio-economic development of the State, the Commissioner extolled the participants who have previously acquired skills in Tie & Dye Adire Clothing, Catering and Confectioneries, Gele Tying and Make-Up application, Hairdressing and Wig making, Fabrics Stoning and embellishments, Production of Soap, Pomade/Healthy Insecticide Production, Barbering techniques, Throw Pillow Making with Duvets as well as Ankara Crafts and Leather Works.

She reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to providing start-up packs to enable participants to commence their businesses immediately after training, disclosing that a total of 13,750 residents had benefited from the training since 2019.

She, therefore, implored graduands to adopt the entrepreneurship skills they were taught during the training and practise proper book-keeping to access loans through the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), charging other prospective students, particularly unemployed persons or the underemployed, to enrol into any of the 19 Skills Acquisition centres across the State, which offer various Skill Acquisition training for a duration of 6 to 12 months for financial independence.

In his address, the Pastor in Charge of the Foursquare Gospel Church, Omole Phase 1, Rev. Ayomide Abraham commended the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for his THEMES Plus social inclusion initiative aimed at ensuring that Lagosians receive the greatest dividends of democracy from the State Government.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of certificates of competency to the beneficiaries, as well as start-up packs distributed to graduates for the different acquired skills.
