HON. ( MRS.) LOLA AKANDE – HON. COMMISSIONER

A product of Queen’s School, Ibadan, Hon Lola Akande holds  a Master’s Degree in Public Administration (MPA) with specialization in Public Policy from University of Lagos and also, a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from the same institution, having earlier obtained a BSc. (Hons) in Botany) from the prestigious University Of Ife (now Obafemi  Awolowo University ), Osun State.

A political icon, Hon. Lola Akande was before her current appointment as the Commissioner for Women Affairs Poverty Alleviation, the Deputy Majority Leader of the 7th Lagos State House of Assembly between 2011-2015, having previously held the position of the Deputy Chief Whip of the same House  between 2007-2011 representing Ikeja Constituency 11.    Conversely, before these positions she was actively involved in different political activities and held both elective and appointed portfolios at various periods. She was a Chairmanship aspirant for Ikeja Local Government on the platform of the then Social Democratic Party (SDP); Secretary, Justice Forum Ikeja Local Government ; Ex- officio member (UNCP) Ikeja Local Government 1997 and elected member of Lagos State House of Assembly 2007, as well as, Board member of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority 2007 amongst others.

Nevertheless, Hon. Lola Akande’s working experience started in 1983 when she observed her mandatory National Youth Service Corp with Cadbury Nigeria Limited Ikeja, in the Technical Service Department. Prior to this in 1976, she had worked on vacation job at NEPA (PHCN) Dugbe, Ibadan where she was saddled with the responsibility of Balancing of Accounts and also served in the same capacity in 1980 at Guinness Nigeria Limited during her holiday job.

However, after completion of her NYSC in 1984, Hon. Lola Akande joined Lagos State Teaching Service Commission in 1985 and taught till 1991. From 1991 till date she worked as the chairman of Fibsol Ent.

A lover of knowledge, Hon. Lola Akande has attended many courses, workshops and trainings in the course of her political sojourn. She participated at Y2014 NCSL Summit organized by National Council of State Legislative in USA (August 2014), 5 day retreat on Transformational Leadership and Organizational change organized by Cambridge University/JBseel held in Amuwo Odofin June 201`4, Lagos. She also participated in E.C.I. Georgia Convention held in USA in March 2013; and

An outstanding achiever, Hon. Lola Akande has to her credit numerous Certificates, Awards and Honors which include but not limited to Certificate of Commendation on Resourcefulness as a Teacher 1988/ 1989; Companion Honors by the Institute of Certified Professional Managers (ICPM) November 2007- October 2010; Ikeja City Award as the Outstanding Visionary Leader of the Year 2011; Great Women Award as the Outstanding Honourable Member of the Year 2012 ; Classic International Magazine (CAMA) Award as the Best Outstanding Female Politician of the Year 2013; Leadership and Followership Development Centre Gold Award ;  Award of Recognition of contribution to the Upliftment of the Yoruba Culture and Tradition; INRI Widows Foundation Award – in recognition of services rendered in the area of the political development of the womenfolk; Life Membership Award from the Lagos State Public Service Sport Lawn Tennis Section amongst others.

A great philanthropist and staunch believer in community and people –oriented development, Hon. Lola Akande has over years contributed immensely to the growth and development of her Constituency through programmes such as, Annual Town Hall Empowerment Programmes ; Annual Public Speaking & Mathematics Motivational Test Competitions for  Public Primary, Junior and Senior Secondary  Schools; Donation of GCE Forms to students;  Donations to Orphanages and Old People’s Home; Construction of Library as President of the then Ikeja  Peridot Lion’s  Club;  Organization of Hon. Lola Akande Soccer Challenge and Special Financial Assistance to the less  privileged individuals, religious organizations and communities.

A quintessential and elegant woman, Hon. Lola Akande is married with children and loves socializing, travelling and reading in her spare time.
